ED is often caused by a hormonal imbalance, and our method of correcting that imbalance works to stop ED at its source.

Erectile dysfunction (or ED) is the inability to maintain an erection firm enough for sexual intercourse or other sexual activity. ED may be characterized by the inability to reach an erection, an inconsistent ability to do so, or the inability to sustain an erection for an extended period of time.

Erectile dysfunction can be uncomfortable and embarrassing. If low levels of male hormones (including testosterone) are the cause of your erectile dysfunction, hormone replacement therapy may be the ideal solution for you.

The physicians at our medical center have successfully used HRT to help men experiencing erectile dysfunction achieve and maintain erections. HRT for men is a safe and effective method for treating erectile dysfunction.

The Role of Hormones in ED

Hormones work together to help a man’s body function at its best. If one hormone is unbalanced, other hormones, along with a man’s overall health, will be affected. After the age of 30, testosterone levels in men start to decline. When low testosterone levels start to affect a man’s health, this is referred to as andropause or “male menopause.”

Hormone imbalances associated with andropause have been proven to cause erectile dysfunction. Low testosterone (also common during andropause) also reduces sex drive, which is another factor that can affect a man’s ability to achieve an erection. In some cases, sexual desire is still present, but a man is incapable of sustaining an erection.

High levels of the hormones cortisol, often referred to as the stress hormone, and prolactin, a chemical secreted by the brain’s pituitary gland, have been associated with ED due to their ability to decrease testosterone.

Hypothyroidism, a condition where thyroid levels diminish, stimulates the production of prolactin, causing a decrease in testosterone. Low testosterone levels in men going through andropause may also be caused by hypogonadism (testicular failure), a condition that causes extreme testosterone deficiency and that often leads to erectile dysfunction.

Erectile Dysfunction Treatment with HRT

Our physicians measure and analyze hormone levels in order to determine if your erectile dysfunction is caused by a hormonal imbalance. If it is, they then determine which ED treatment will best address your unique situation.

Can I take erectile dysfunction pills instead?

Erectile dysfunction pills such as Sildenafil (commonly known as Viagra) and Tadalafil (commonly known as Cialis) may help treat ED. These pills are the first-line treatment for ED in healthy males and are used to help treat erectile dysfunction by increasing blood flow to the penis. During sexual stimulation, the increased blood flow can cause an erection.

Though effective in the short term, ED pills don’t treat the hormonal imbalance that often causes erectile dysfunction. If hormonal imbalance is the problem, Viagra or Cialis won’t make ED go away.

Is HRT safe for treating erectile dysfunction?

It’s important to remember that even though it’s called hormone replacement therapy, the goal of this treatment is not to replace someone’s hormone level with what they once had. Our process is to give a very small amount of hormones to supplement or to help your body naturally produce hormones that it no longer makes as a result of aging. By doing this, we alleviate symptoms associated with hormone imbalance and help you feel better.

HRT for men is completely safe when taken under the guidance of an expert practitioner. Among men, HRT has been proven to help prevent cardiovascular risks and type 2 diabetes. We don’t want anyone to suffer from erectile dysfunction when there’s a much better option available.
